ABC 7 CHICAGO will highlight the rich culture and traditions of Chicago's Latino community during Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15-October 15. ABC 7 will celebrate Hispanic heritage with special news reports; the broadcast of the Little Village Chamber of Commerce 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade; a half-hour edition of THE N BEAT; and a series of vignettes featuring ABC 7's Stacey Baca, Michelle Gallardo, John Garcia, Theresa Gutierrez and Roz Varon.

To kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, all the pageantry of Mexican culture was on display when ABC 7's Theresa Gutierrez hosted the Little Village Chamber of Commerce 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade Sunday, September 8. ABC 7 Chicago wasthe only TV station in town broadcasting the parade. Participating in this colorful community event were members of the ABC 7 News team including Stacey Baca, Michelle Gallardo, Eric Horng, John Garcia, Paul Meincke, Hosea Sanders and Roz Varon who will be riding atop the ABC 7 float. WBC Lightweight World Champion and Olympic boxer David Diaz, a native Chicagoan, served the parade's Grand Marshal this year.
"The 26th Street Parade, in the heart of Little Village, gives this Chicago neighborhood a chance to take a bow. ABC 7 is proud to be the only TV station in the city to broadcast the parade and showcase Mexican culture and tradition for all Chicagoans," said John Idler, President and General Manager, ABC 7.
Throughout September and October, ABC 7 will celebrate Hispanic Heritage
Month with vignettes spotlighting respected and influential Latinos in Chicago.
Then, ABC 7 will broadcast its Emmy Award-winning program, THE N BEAT, hosted by Theresa Gutierrez, with special contributions by ABC 7's Stacey Baca, Michelle Gallardo, John Garcia, and Roz Varon, Saturday, September 28th at 6:30 pm, with an encore presentation on Sunday, September 29th at 1:30 pm.
On this Hispanic Heritage Month edition of THE N BEAT, the show focuses on one of the most famous chefs in Latin America, Gaston Acurio who just opened his 37th restaurant, Tanta, serving tantalizing Peruvian favorites right here in Chicago. Then, the show highlights the journey of Puerto Rican born neurosurgeon, Dr. Lorenzo F. Munoz, who specializes in the treatment of complex brain and spinal cord tumors at Rush University Medical Center. Next, after emigrating from his native Mexico when he was 10-years-old, Jesus Manteca-Priego has become an accomplished photographer who has published beautiful coffee table books. His stunning floral photos have had a healing effect on patients at the doctor's office where he works. THE N BEAT also spotlights the remarkable Latin Jazz Ensemble of the College of the Performing Arts of Roosevelt University, one of the few collegiate Latin jazz ensembles offered in the Chicago area. The show meets up with the founders of Paco Ideation, a multi media ad agency that creates ads for companies looking to market to the Hispanic Community.
