1 killed, 1 hurt in police shootings

September 7, 2013 (CHICAGO)

A man was shot and killed Saturday morning by an off-duty Chicago police officer at a CHA building located at Monroe and Wood.

Few details were available. The male victim was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

In another shooting, Chicago police officers wounded a suspect on the city's South Side.

It happened shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday in the 6200-block of South Martin Luther King Drive.

Police say the officers saw the suspect shoot at a passing car. They ordered the man to drop the gun, but they said he pointed it at them, and they fired.

The man took off. That's when police fired two more times and hit the suspect in the leg.

No police officers were injured.

Police say the suspect is expected to survive and they are still trying to learn more about the initial shooting.
