New asthma treatment has patients breathing easier

September 8, 2013

A radically different treatment provides benefits that last for years.

A surgical tube with four tiny wires is guided down into the lungs.

Then, the four wires zap excess muscles around the airways and release bursts of heat.

It's the only non-drug asthma therapy approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Doctors are seeing positive results.

The one-time treatment is meant for people suffering from extreme asthma who don't respond to medicine.
