John Collins, 42, of Chicago was wrongfully imprisoned in Cook County Jail for one year, while awaiting trial on aggravated battery charges.
After a three-day trial, the jury found Chicago police officer Michael Garza guilty of malicious prosecution for bringing false charges against Collins in January 2006.
The city law department says it's disappointed with the verdict and will be exploring all available options, including an appeal.
