Man injured after falling into sidewalk hole

September 27, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Alfonso Hansbrough was walking with some friends around 3 a.m. Friday at Clark and Hubbard, an area that's under construction.

The sidewalk in the area is being repaired and the area where the concrete is torn up is covered with plywood so pedestrians can walk through.

Hansborough says the plywood just gave way under him.

"One of my friend's loft I was coming out of, as soon as I stepped on it, I heard it crick, and I'm like 'I know this isn't going to happen.' Next thing you know I was airborne, myself, everything, I was like 'oh my God,'" Hansborough said.

Hansbrough was taken to Northwestern Hospital.

He has minor injuries to his hand, leg and ankle, but nothing serious.

The city says it is looking into the incident.
