Bridge lifts are a big sign of the changing seasons along the south branch of the river.
This happens on Saturday's and Wednesday's throughout October to let boats travel from Lake Michigan to their winter storage areas inland.
This entire process will be done again in reverse, in the spring, when the boats head back to the lake.
