Northwestern hosts peanut-free football game

October 15, 2013 (EVANSTON, Ill.)

The school is holding its first peanut-free football game. Northwestern officials said it will give fans with allergies a chance to focus on the game instead of worrying about negative reactions, which can range from mild irritation to life-threatening anaphylactic shock.

Peanut allergies affect about 5 out of every 1,000 Americans and are on the rise.
