DuSable Way honors Chicago's first settler

Chicago honors its very first settler by naming a street after him.

A part of Payne Drive will now have the honorary designation, Jean Baptiste Point Dusable Way.

It is believed DuSable came to what is now Chicago before 1779.

He established the first settlement here and lived there for at least 20 years.

He also resided in what is now Peoria and died in St. Charles, Missouri in 1819.
