Road, airport delays in Chicago after storms

October 17, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The steeple at Concordia Lutheran Church, located at Belmont and Washtenaw in the Avondale neighborhood, was blown loose during the high winds in Chicago on Sunday. Officials want to make sure it is secured before allowing people to travel underneath it.

The storms, which spawned tornadoes in the south suburbs and caused serious damage, also led to cancelations at delays at O'Hare International Airport. Around 270 flights were canceled at O'Hare, stranding passengers. Many of them spent the night at O'Hare's Terminal Three.

The Hoye family came in from New York. They were told the earliest they could get on a plane to their Tulsa, Oklahoma home was 6 p.m. Monday.

Many delayed passengers say being inconvenienced is nothing compared to the devastation felt by many in towns devastated by the tornadoes.
