The Chicago Cubs are encouraging fans to pitch in and help tornado survivors. So, starting Thursday, donations will be accepted at Wrigley Field.

The team is asking fans to donate non-perishable food and supplies Thursday at Wrigley Field from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Donations will also be accepted Friday from 8 am-11 am.

By Thursday afternoon, donation items had started to pile up. Cubs fans and other kind-hearted people were dropping off bags full of donations.

"I'm glad that I can do something with those things, and it'll be useful, and it's appreciated. I really am," said Jennifer Albolino.

"Well, I thought that we have a lot of things at home that they could use, and I got the email from the Cubs that gave the list of all the things they needed. So, I went and looked through all the things we had and went to the store with what we didn't have and brought it here, and I'll come back this afternoon again," said John Faulhaber.

The purple lot at Wrigley Field is the drop-off point for donations.

The items will be loaded onto a truck and transported to Peoria, Ill., by a small group of the team's associates. "We've only been open since 9 a.m. this morning, and we have quite a few items already. The Cubs fans passion fuels everything we do, and we see them constantly turning that passion into action in the community ,and this is just a great demonstration of that today," said Connie Falcone, vice president of Development, Chicago Cubs Charities.

The Red Cross is specifically requesting items that include tote bags, plastic trash cans, plastic storage bins and gloves.
