New guidelines are offered on what not to do when seeking relief from chronic headaches.

The recommendations are: do not get an imaging head scan, do not take narcotic painkillers, avoid too much Tylenol or Advil, and do not get surgery.

The recommendations are from the American Headache Society and the Choosing Wisely Task Force.

So what should patients do? No concrete advice on that is offered. The recommendation is to see your doctor to discuss options.
