Gas stations in North, Northwest suburbs targeted by armed robber

November 22, 2013 (SCHAUMBURG, Ill.)

The suspect has struck 15 times, robbing numerous gas stations since last month. Police have issued a community alert with hopes that someone will come forward with information.

It was a night Prabhu can't forget.

"Put your head down on the floor don't get up," said Prabhu, robbery victim.

He was robbed at gunpoint while working the late shift at this Schaumburg Shell gas station near Woodfield Mall.

Police say the suspect, seen in a picture captured by security cameras, is also responsible for robbing 14 other locations in the north and northwest suburbs.

Prabhu says the suspect walked in, drew his gun, pointed it right at his head, demanded money and threatened to shoot.

"I'm working on the register so I opened it, open the other register also or I'll shoot at you, he put the gun on me then I was scared very much, (He put the gun to your head?) Yeah, like this," said Prabhu.

A customer witnessed the robbery from outside and called for help.

"There was one customer saw him putting the gun over me he so he stayed outside and called 911 from his car he said," said Prabhu.

The incident is alarming for customers that stop at this very busy location.

"It's very disturbing me, being a woman, pregnant, being young, going to the gas station by myself is fearful now," said Tamara Bogan, customer.

"It's really sad how things have become especially out here usually crime is very low in this area," said Andreas Garcia, customer.

Police do not have anyone in custody and have not released the locations of the other 14 gas stations that were targeted.
