Officer charged in shooting to be stripped of powers; Dante Sevin shot, killed 22-year-old Rekia Boyd while off duty

Chicago Police officer Dante Servin is heading to court charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of 22-year-old Rekia Boyd.

A Chicago police officer charged with a deadly shooting will be stripped of his powers Tuesday.

Dante Servin faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, reckless discharge of a firearm and reckless conduct from the 2012 deadly shooting of 22-year-old Rekia Boyd.

Servin, who was off duty at the time, told investigators a man with Boyd pulled what appeared to be a gun from his waistband, sparking him to fire.

Servin is now free on $75,000 bond.
