Toddler still recovering at La Rabida after August car crash

November 28, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Brodney Serrano, 3, is going through rehabilitation at La Rabida Children's Hospital on Chicago's South Side. In August, Brodney was struck by a car while on the way to a water park with his family. He suffered a brain injury.

Doctors told his family he wouldn't survive. But now, Brodney is slowly gaining mobility. And he is now able to lift his arms.

"They were saying he was going to stay paralyzed on the right side, and he wasn't able, that he wasn't going to be able to move that side, but he's moving fine. And they said hopefully the trach is going to come out and he's real active with both sides," said mom Christine Serrano.

The family spent Thanksgiving with Brodney at the hospital. Donor and volunteer chefs gathered to serve a holiday meal for hundreds of patients and their families.
