Chicago crime rate lowest in decades, police say

The Chicago Police Department says the city's crime rate is at its lowest point in decades.

Chicago saw a 15 percent drop in overall crime numbers through November, compared to the same period last year, Chicago police said.

Police also said that murders are down 20 percent and shootings are down 25 percent.

There were 70 fewer shootings and 9 fewer murders in November 2013 than in November 2012.
