Meningitis outbreak at Princeton, UC Santa Barbara puts Northwestern University on alert

ABC7 Eyewitness News has learned Northwestern University is on heightened awareness because of meningitis outbreaks at two other schools across the country.

There were no cases confirmed on Northwestern's Evanston campus Wednesday.

A student from the University of California at Santa Barbara lost both his legs below the knee after being diagnosed with a rare strain of meningitis.

Weeks earlier, eight students at Princeton were diagnosed with a different strain of the illness.
