Karen Perrin locked in bathroom for 8 hours, breaks free with door handle

December 13, 2013 (NEW YORK)

"The handle would not budge," Perrin said. "I decided I could probably try to get the attention of our security team, the security camera in the hallway. I began pushing paper towels under the door frame. Repeatedly. And I did that for about 30 minutes."

It didn't work. At 10:30 p.m. on a Friday, no one was around. Instead, she used a chair in the bathroom to break off the inside of the door handle and used it to chisel a hole in the wall.

"I was able to break through the wall at one point and then eventually I was able to pick all around that area and get my hand through," Perrin said.

After eight hours, she was finally free. Her arm took a beating and her hand was hurt, but she hopes one day to smile about the incident.

"I believe that one day we will be able to laugh about this," she said.
