Pregnant teen killed in Dolton shooting, baby lives; Eva Casara, 17, shot in back of head, dies at Oak Lawn hospital

December 26, 2013 (OAK LAWN, Ill.)

Eva Casara, 17, was five-and-a-half months pregnant. Her newborn daughter, who weighs only one pound, is fighting for her life at a hospital in Oak Lawn.

Thursday night Dolton police reviewed surveillance video from the area where the teen was found.

"That's what I'm looking for, some answers. Please, somebody, anybody, help me with my baby," said Estrellita Casara, teenager's mother. "She's just a shining light. Anywhere she goes, she lights up the place. She's so beautiful, inside as she is outside. Everybody loved her, she had a good heart."

Casara was shot in the back of the head on Wednesday. Her body was found in a residential area in Dolton around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, but police believe the shooting occurred somewhere else. Casara was taken to the hospital, where doctors saved her baby but she died.

"Do the right thing, come forward. She was a baby," said Autumn Casara, Eva's aunt.

"We believe we found the actual location where this young lady was shot at," Dolton Police Chief John Franklin said. "It was suspected (Wednesday) night that she was not actually shot at 1102, that she was placed there. And members of the Crime Task Force have found some shell casings in the 15200 South Dorchester where we believe the actual shooting did occur there."

Dolton Police are reviewing surveillance video while little newborn remains in critical condition at Advocate Children's Hospital.
