With the snow beginning to fall throughout the Chicago area and a deep freeze forecast to follow, residents hit the grocery stores on Saturday afternoon to stock up.

The latest storm is expected to dump up to a foot of snow in certain areas by Sunday night before potentially record-setting cold moves into the area on overnight Sunday and into Monday.

The chance of being stranded in their homes for a couple of days drove people out to the stores for supplies.

Lines were long at grocery stores and other retailers as customers made sure they had enough food and staples to last until the bitter cold subsides.
