Andre Bacon, 21, was being held on $75,000 bond Monday.
Chicago police say he tried to carjack a woman while she was in her garage near Long and School. After she gave up her SUV, the victim ran away and closed the garage door.
When police opened that garage door, the suspect allegedly was still behind the wheel.
