Woman drops off baby at NW Side fire station

February 7, 2014 (CHICAGO)

Fire officials say the baby's mother brought the infant to the fire station near Cumberland and Foster on Thursday evening.

The mother went inside and told people at the station she had given birth to the baby that morning and was leaving it there.

Under the Illinois Safe Haven Law, mothers can turn over babies younger than 30 days old to staff at fire stations and certain other locations without fear of prosecution.
