I-55 southbound closed at Route 47 due to multiple crashes

The Illinois State Police tell Eyewitness News there are multiple crashes along this stretch. One of the crashes involved extrication from a six-vehicle pileup.

Heavy snow is reported in the area.

Illinois State Police are urging motorists to slow down.
