Chicago police say Mary Ryan, of the 6100 block of N. Hoyne, attempted to suffocate her daughter with a plastic bag around 11:10 a.m. in the 5800 block of N. Western. Police say the mother turned herself in to authorities and that her daughter was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital in good condition.
