ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (WLS) -- A couple found dead in an Arlington Heights home on Saturday were stabbed to death, authorities said.
Officers received a 911 call about 12:30 a.m. from the first block of South Derbyshire Lane, but the person on the other line did not say anything discernable, according to a statement from Arlington Heights police.
Police responded to the home and found a man and woman dead with "traumatic injuries."
The medical examiner's office has identified the victims as 71-year-old Anne Martin and her husband, 72-year-old David Martin. The Arlington Heights Police Department confirmed that the victims were married.
The Daily Herald reports that Anne Martin was a retired Wheeling High School teacher and that the couple had two adopted children, three step grandchildren and a grandchild.
Police say they have a person of interest in custody and there is no further risk to the community. Authorities have not released any identifying information about the person of interest or their relationship to the victims, if any.
Arlington Heights detectives and forensic technicians are investigating the Martins' deaths as a double homicide.
The Major Case Assistance Team is assisting.
