Chicago area auto mechanics vote to go on strike
Monday is the last day before auto repair mechanics across the Chicago area go on strike.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Monday is the last day before auto repair mechanics across the Chicago area go on strike.

Members of the Automobile Mechanics Union Local 701 voted overwhelmingly to go ahead with the strike that begins at midnight. The results of the vote were announced at the union's headquarters in Carol Stream over the weekend.

The union, which has 1,700 technicians, said they were not happy with the deal on the table and voted to go on strike for more money and a better work environment.

That decision could affect dealerships across Chicago. The Chicago Automobile Trade Association confirms that 140 of its 420 dealerships will be affected.
