BARRINGTON, Ill. (WLS) -- Police are investigating a death at a home in north suburban Barrington.

Authorities were seen entering the home in the 500-block of North Avenue with two stretchers on Tuesday night. A police command truck - usually reserved for violent crimes - was a startling sight for neighbors.

"Nothing ever happens here, and then all of sudden we've got this huge truck here, not just regular police activity, so it's kind of scary," said Ewa Cebula, a neighbor.

Neighbors on North Avenue said the two-story residence is home to a husband and wife and their adult daughter who may have special needs.

The first sign of trouble came late Tuesday afternoon, when neighbors say police arrived, and the wife appeared distraught.

"I've seen a lady coming out of her house, looking real sad, hugging a cop. They put her in a car," said Melissa Blach, a neighbor.

Police offered few details, and will only say the case is a death investigation. Neighbors were told there's no danger to the community, but still found the scene unnerving.

"People walking around with gloves on, detectives everywhere. It was very unsettling," said Blach.

The Barrington Police Department and the Cook County Major Case Assistance Team continue to investigate.
