CUTLER, Calif. (WLS) -- If you have purchased nectarines, peaches, plums or pluots recently from California, even if they're organic, check the label carefully.

The Wawona Packing Company outside Fresno is expanding a voluntary recall of those fruits because they may be contaminated with listeria.

Listeria is a deadly bacteria that can affect older adults, children, and people with weakened immune systems.

Wawona ships to Costco, Trader Joe's, Kroger, and Walmart.

The initial recall covered specific lots of fruit packed from June 1 through July 12.

Now, the company is expanding the recall by five days as a precautionary step. The recall now covers fruit packaged through July 17.
