A Dairy Queen owner got a sweet surprise in the mail last week in the form of a note from a former employee.

"Well, I'm a doctor now! It's taken me a long time, I know, to come back around to Dairy Queen but I have thought of you and your kindness often," the note read.

The note, from former employee Nabiha Islam, brought tears to the eyes of Yvonne Lavasidis. Lavasidis owns a Dairy Queen in Ontario, Canada with her husband and brother. Several years earlier, Islam worked for them for about two years.

"She was a wonderful employee and so bright and one of those kids that you know will be exceptional and find success," Lavasidis told ABC News.

Yvonne's husband George says it warms their hearts to see employees go on to find success following their time woking for them and that they stay in touch with many of their former employees. While they had not heard from Islam since she had left, George says she is an inspiration.

"My wife still gets teary-eyed whenever she reads the card and Nabiha's thoughtfulness will not be forgotten. In fact, I hope my two daughters, aged 13 and 11 turn out to be just like her," he said.

"You are an incredible boss and an even better human being," the note went on to say. "Thank you for supporting and encouraging me, for BBQing halal chicken for me, and allowing me to study for my MCAT's in the back when no customers were around. Much love, Nabiha"
