ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- Thanksgiving is approaching quickly, and families around the U.S. are preparing their meals. Sadly, many veterans will across the country will not have a holiday meal to enjoy.
In 2009, a handful of volunteers were able to provide 109 Veterans and their families with the means for a Thanksgiving meal and additional food. Now, those volunteers have formed the non-profit organization Caring Patriots. In 2016, Caring Patriots hopes to provide food for 1,000 Veterans and their families around the Chicago area. With the assistance of many volunteers, both monetary donations and food is collected from many generous individuals to help make this dream come true.
The food drive is happening November 18-19, 2016 in Romeoville. Caring Patriots President, Mike Cozzi, and Vice President, David Torres, visited the ABC 7 State Street Studios to talk about the need to support our Veterans during the holiday season.
