PEORIA, Ill. (WLS) -- Peoria-based manufacturer Caterpillar Inc. has announced it will lay off about 200 full-time production employees in its Decatur and East Peoria facilities. About 20 agency employees will also be let go.

A spokesperson for Caterpillar said the layoffs are expected to begin on Jan. 19 and are due to a decline in demand for mining industry products.

"We know this is difficult for our employees and their families, and the company plans to offer impacted employees support services during this time," Caterpillar said in a statement.
