2018 Chicago Air & Water Show wraps up along lakefront

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Thousands crowded along the lakefront again on Sunday for the second day of the 60th annual Chicago Air and Water Show.

The Army Golden Knights jumping team thrilled the audience on North Avenue Beach and beyond by hitting their targets on the beach from improbable heights. Several acts followed, including the show-stopping Air Force Thunderbirds which wowed beach-goers and rattled downtown windows.

"It is an incredible event and it allows us to bring the American Army to the American public," said Sgt. 1st Class Teigh Statler, of the Army Golden Knights.

Where's the ideal location to watch the Chicago Air & Water Show? We've got the answer.

On Sunday, the Golden Knights honored fallen Chicago Fire Department diver Juan Bucio, who died on Memorial Day while searching for a diver in the Chicago River.

Bucio's sons accepted a baton from the Golden Knights.

"I think the boys they absolutely loved it. It was an experience of the lifetime for those boys," said Deputy District Chief Ron Dorneker, of the CFD Marine & Divine Operations.

On Saturday, Rhymefest opened the show by jumping with the Golden Knights.

When he got back on solid ground he said, "Everyone needs to learn how to fly."

"Earlier, I didn't think I was going to jump out right until I realized I'm Rhymefest from the South Side, until I realized this is a tough act to follow....it's the Air and Water Show straight from Chicago," he said.

Saturday, the rough seas and winds out of the north were causing some anchored boats to drift. On Sunday, the Coast Guard reminded boaters out for the show that they needed to be aware of that safety zone and to be aware that the Chicago Police Department will be enforcing the safety zone.
