CHICAGO (WLS) -- Hundreds of guns were turned in to Chicago police Saturday morning during a gun buyback program held at West Side church.
Hope Community Church in the Austin neighborhood, along with the Chicago police, held the event in an effort to get guns off the streets.
In exchange for each gun, people received a $100 gift card and were asked no questions. A $10 gift card was also issued for BB guns and air guns.
"There's a lot people a lot of guns turned in and every gun that we get off the street is one less gun that can be used in a crime," said Eddie Johnson, interim Chicago police superintendent.
