Record number of youth in Chicago summer camps

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Many Chicago children are attending summer camp in record numbers this season.

The city announced that 44,000 kids are signed up for the Chicago Park District's summer camp.

Attendance is up nearly 10 percent over last year.

As part of the summer program, children ages six to twelve get supervised activities at more than 230 local parks. Some youth attend field trips, explore nature, the arts and engage in sports and recreation.
