CHICAGO (WLS) -- This week is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Illinois.

The National Weather Service is reminding people of the differences between watches and warnings.

A watch means storms are possible but have not formed yet. A warning means it's time to take action.

During severe thunderstorm warnings or tornado warnings, take shelter to stay safe.

Always make sure you have multiple ways to get weather alerts.
