Chicago Weather: Patches of lake-effect snow
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Patches of lake-effect snow pass through the Chicago area while a cold start to the week may give way to a thaw this weekend, says ABC7 Meteorologist Tracy Butler.
The area reached Monday's high temperature of 28 degrees in the early morning hours. By noon, temperatures were holding steady in the high teens to low 20s. By the Friday, Butler says temperatures look to rise above freezing, and edging up towards 40 on Saturday and Sunday.
Lake-effect snow flurries were seen in downtown Chicago beginning in the early afternoon, but Butler says total accumulations not likely to exceed 1 inch.

Snowfall Sunday night left slush and slick conditions on roads during the morning rush Monday. A number of drivers were involved in spinouts and crashes and motorists were advised to reduce speed and keep a safe distance.
The Department of Streets and Sanitation deployed more than 200 snow plows and salt spreaders in Chicago to clear neighborhood and side streets Monday morning.
