CHICAGO (WLS) -- It felt a lot like summer in the Chicago area Tuesday, the hottest start to September since 2011.
After a wet and chilly start to summer, the finals days of the season are hot humid, and the season may finish strong thanks to a steamy week ahead.
Staff at the Park District of Forest Park expected the aquatic center to be busy Tuesday afternoon.
"With the weather last week, it was so cool, it is nice to see 90 degrees every day this week," said Steven Thomas, Park District of Forest Park.
Those outside really felt the heat from this first day of September.
"I love warm weather, but it's when the humidity kicks in that it's really tough, especially on the animals," Kate Webster said.
Glenida Hampton was indoors early Tuesday morning, but her days begin baking for her Red Rose Pastry Lounge in Forest Park. She was hoping for more of a cool fall for cookie Tuesday.
"I was like oh no, I have to be in the hot kitchen,' but because I love cooking, I kind of deal with it and go on with the day so I can make my customers happy," she said.
The high temperatures Tuesday did not set a record. The record high for this day was in 1953, when it was 101.
