CHICAGO (WLS) -- Jennifer Hudson and John Cusack were among the celebrities who united to call for peace in Chicago.

A crowd of several hundred gathered Friday night in front of St. Sabina Catholic Church for the end of year peace rally and to denounce gun violence.

"Nearly seven people a day shot in Chicago since January 1. That's unacceptable!" Father Michael Pfleger said.

The Catholic priest and activist was surrounded by the cast and crew of "Chiraq", Spike Lee's film about violence in Chicago, sponsors of the event and march.

"Despite what you might have read in the papers, I've got nothing but love for you," Lee said.

Actor John Cusack, who plays Fr. Pfleger in the movie, implored people to take save their neighborhood from guns.

"We're going to march Friday until October. Chicago's peace is our Selma. Brothers and sisters, it is time to cross the bridge!" Cusack said.

"Y'all, we gotta stop, we gotta stop the killing," Chicago native Jennifer Hudson said.

The entertainers led a loud march along 79th Street and through the South Side. St. Sabina promises to keep the peace marches happening every Friday night throughout the summer.
