CHICAGO (WLS) -- America's troops serving abroad need coffee to start their day just like us, so some local companies are sending a big caffeine boost.

Javaya and Metropolis Coffee packed up more than 130 pounds of coffee Sunday night. It will be shipped to active service members.

Customers at Metropolis were able to write thank you cards to send along with the coffee.

They call this their "Coffee for Courage" initiative.

Coffee For Courage takes donated craft coffee from around the city and ships it to troops on the front lines. It's a "taste of home" that they rarely, if ever receive.

This is our inaugural shipment will arrive to troops before Christmas.
