Backyard treasures revealed at Field Museum ID Day

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Have you ever found a rock or something else interesting around your home, but don't know exactly what it is? Well the Field Museum's scientists want to help! They're hosting their 4th annual ID Day on September 23, 2017 from 10am-2pm. Bring your clean bones, fossils, rocks, meteorites, seashells, feathers, artifacts or photographs and the Field Museum ( will help you identify them.

The scientists will also have their own specimens to display. Last year, over a dozen Field Museum scientists specializing in zoology, paleontology, geology, and more were available to identify specimens and answer questions. This year, to meet the popular demand of the event, even more scientists will be on hand. ID Day admission is free to Illinois residents. Julian Kerbis, a mammologist at the Field Museum, joined ABC 7 live from the event to show off some of their recent finds.
