Body found in Crystal Lake retention pond

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. -- A body was found in a retention pond Monday morning in northwest suburban Crystal Lake.

Officers responded about 11:30 a.m. to a report of a body in the pond in the 4400 block of Northwest Highway, according to Crystal Lake police. The person was dead at the scene.

"We have no reason to believe a threat to the public exists," police said.

Crystal Lake police and the McHenry County coroner's office are investigating. Police said the body belongs to an adult male but has not yet been identified An autopsy will be performed Wednesday.
