CHICAGO (WLS) -- The CTA's bus fleet is about to get more high-tech. The agency will buy roughly two dozen fully electric buses.

The CTA has been testing two models for the past year. Officials said that made the CTA the first major transit agency in the U.S. to incorporate all-electric buses into daily service on several routes across the city. The buses have traveled 25,000 miles so far and were able to go 80 miles on a single battery charge.

Officials said riders will notice a much quieter ride. Electric buses also mean better air quality for everyone.

The CTA plans to buy between 20 and 30 of the buses later this year, using federal grants.
