Derrick Smith prison surrender date delayed

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A former Illinois state lawmaker will not report to prison on Wednesday as scheduled.

On Tuesday, a judge granted a request from Derrick Smith to delay his surrender while appealing the case. Smith has been sentenced to five months in prison for accepting a $7,000 bribe.

He's now scheduled to report to prison on October 21.
