CHICAGO (WLS) -- Diego Rodriguez, 20, was charged in the beating and sexual assault of his former girlfriend in Chicago's Norwood Park neighborhood.

Police arrested Rodriguez after he was identified as the offender who a University of Illinois-Chicago officer saw forcing a woman into a vehicle in the 6300-block of West Hermione Street just before 3 a.m. Sunday.

The officer identified herself and tried to pull the 19-year-old victim out of the vehicle. But she was dragged as the suspect sped away, police said. The victim was thrown from the moving vehicle a short distance away.

The victim and the officer were taken to Presence Our Lady of Resurrection Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rodriguez, of the 6300-block of West Raven Street, was located and taken into custody Sunday afternoon. He was charged with aggravated sex assault, aggravated battery to a peace officer, unlawful restraint and aggravated domestic battery.

He is due in bond court on Monday.
