GLENWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- A man and a woman were found dead in a home in south suburban Glenwood on Thursday afternoon after another man called 911. Authorities believe the two victims are mother and son.

Police were called to a home in the 800 block of 194th Street around 3:30 p.m.

Police say when they arrived they found a man unconscious bleeding from self-inflicted cuts all over his body.

On Thursday night, a meticulously manicured lot on the corner of Minerva Avenue was surrounded by yellow police tape, and the center of an active crime scene.

"We received a call today about 3:30 p.m. from a gentleman who stated that he had killed his wife and son," said Glenwood Police Chief Demitrous Cook. "We found a gentleman injured, appeared to be self-inflicted injuries in the garage."

Upstairs police say officers found a woman and man dead on the floor.

"I'm friends with the sons. Those are my best friends, we grew up together, went to school in this neighborhood," said Sheron Davis.

Neighbors knew this family well and say the father, mother and two sons have lived there for years. The flower beds, they say, were the wife's pet project.

"He really was a good person, he is a good person, and he had a very, very beautiful wife," said neighbor Carolyn Phillips.

On Thursday evening, authorities say the father is at a nearby hospital under police supervision, as investigators wait to figure out what happened inside this home.

Investigators said they have obtained a search warrant to get inside the home to begin their investigation.
