CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WLS) -- A drone and commercial jetliner nearly crashed at the Charlotte-Douglas Airport in North Carolina, official said.

The U.S. Airways jet was about to land when a remote control quadcopter came flying in front of the plane, officials say. The pilot had to call the control tower for help.

The drone violated a ban of flying within 5 miles of an airport, a growing concern for the airline industry as drones become more popular.

The plane did manage to land safely.
