CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago Public Schools officials say the system had "record" attendance on the first day of school this year, with 94.8 percent of students present on Tuesday.

Two schools, Edison Park Elementary and Edgar Allen Poe Classical School, had perfect attendance, according to CPS officials. Last year, 93.7 percent of students attended the first day of school.

Officials say the numbers come as the system has increased its outreach prior to the first day of school via social media, yard signs and robo calls.

The CTA also offered free bus and train rides for students on the first day of school. Free passes to the Museum of Science and Industry were also offered.
