CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago Public Schools is warning its principals to brace for big cuts.

CPS said budgets could be slashed up to 26 percent during a meeting involving several principals.

The cuts could mean massive teacher layoffs and increased class sizes.

CPS is facing a $1 billion dollar budget deficit and also anticipates deeper administrative cuts if it doesn't get funding from Springfield.
