PALATINE, Ill. (WLS) -- Officials at Harper College on Monday will announce a new program, Harper Promise, that will offer two years of free tuition to students from high schools in districts 211, 214 and 220 if they maintain their grades, meet attendance requirements and perform some community service (starting with the second semester of their freshman year.) This is a joint effort between the colleges, the school districts and some of the larger employers in the northwest suburbs. The idea is manifold: To get families that may never even think about college doing so. The college hopes to fund the program through donations.
