CHICAGO (WLS) -- Giving children the tools early can foster a lifelong love of reading. March is National Reading Month; which stresses the importance of reading in children's lives. There are some tips to help your child love to read. It's important to know their reading level so you don't frustrate them, or pick books too easy that can be boring for a child to read. Let children choose the books they would like to read. And if you want to encourage active reading, keep books in plain sight and set an example. Children are much more likely to pick up a book if they see their parents reading.
Dr. Colleen Conlan-Carter, from Glenwood Academy (www.glenwoodacademy.org), joined ABC 7 Eyewitness News to talk about the importance of reading. Glenwood Academy is hosting a free Open House event on Sunday, April 10, 2016 for parents looking to enroll their children.
