Elgin woman killed in head-on crash; 1 injured

ELGIN, Ill. (WLS) -- An Elgin woman is dead and another was seriously injured after police say the deceased woman's car crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.

On Tuesday around 7 a.m., the Elgin police and fire departments responded to the area of Highland Ave and Lyle Ave for a head-on fatal traffic crash involving two cars.

Police say a 2005 Nissan Altima driven by Cynthia Vega, 20, of Elgin, was traveling westbound on Highland Ave. when it traveled over the center line of the roadway and struck a 2014 Honda Civic that was traveling eastbound on Highland.

Vega was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Civic, a 28-year-old woman from Elgin, was seriously injured in the crash and transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital.

Police continue to investigate.
